Dazzling in Red: Birthday Time

Ohh Angie - Fashion Blogger

Today is my birthday! They say that after your early 20s, the years just fly. Honestly, 25 went by so fast, it’s crazy to think that I am now another year older. I don’t know if some of you are the same way, but I like to reflect during my birthday some of the ups and downs of my year and what I want to pursue in the next. This time around, I want to list 26 things I have learned in life so far. I don’t want to imply that I have everything figured out (because haha, I don’t), but life is about lessons and learning from them. Thank you for the well wishes!

  1. Love your friends, especially the good ones that are there for you through your entire ups and downs.
  2. Be a good friend. Speak kindly and always be there to provide a non-judgemental space to vent.
  3. Don’t let past relationships close your heart up. Lead with confidence and love with an open heart. 25 was an age where I really let a lot of past baggage go and it’s been such a freeing experience.
  4. Mom is not perfect, but she loves you with all of her heart. She has good advice and sometimes bad ones, but it all comes from a place of love.
  5. Know your worth. If a situation does not make you a better person, it’s not worth your time.
  6. Stop trying to be perfect all of the time. There is no such thing as perfection and the more you try and chase it, the more you’ll be disappointed and develop a dysfunctional relationship in how you view yourself.
  7. Speak your mind. If something bothers you, speak up.
  8. Don’t be afraid to be judged. Say whatever is on the tip of your tongue, even if it’s sometimes borderline offensive or just outright hilarious.
  9. Your childhood does not define you. Break free of whatever limitations you or an adult figure put in your mind and own it.
  10. Don’t try and grow up so fast. This was a big thing for me when I was younger and as I get older, I’m wishing time would slow down.
  11. Eat that entire medium pizza.
  12. Life is too short. Seriously, eat that pizza.
  13. Life is also too short to be worrying all of the time. My biggest lesson in life lately is to stop controlling so much of how I want my life to go and just let it fall where it may be.
  14. Water is the fountain of youth.
  15. It’s okay to walk around bare face. Maybe not so much at work, but you do you, girl.

  16. Make new friends. Don’t become complacent and think you don’t need anymore friends. There is always room in life for more happiness and support.
  17. Set goals and do them. Nothing like whimiscal goals that never get done.
  18. Your dad is your example of who you should date. It took me a long time to get to this point, because I didn’t have a father figure growing up until I met my stepdad in my late teens. I’m still figuring it out, but it’s definitely boosted my self love once my stepdad proved that he would always be my support system.
  19. Forget the haters. I’m a people pleaser, so it bothers me when I find out people speaking negatively about me. However, I’m at a “fuck it” stage, because see #12 + #13.
  20. Learn to trust. I think these lessons have taught me that I have control issues sometimes. Trust that the world has your back, even when it’s really hard to see that.
  21. Sex does not sell. I mean it does, but not in the way that I want to sell myself. I struggled for awhile trying to figure out how I wanted to be represented. I have a body that can be easily sexualized, but it’s never been part of my comfort zone. It took me some time to really be comfortable in knowing that I don’t have to be half naked or be the epitome of the next girl on a magazine to be pretty.
  22. Cook at home more. Seriously, it saves you so much money and also slims your waistline.
  23. Set a good example. This correlates to #21.
  24. Be brave. When you get that itch in your throat or panic creeping up your body, push through it and do what you set out to do. Do not let fear control your life. I’ve made it a habit to push myself myself over the edge of certain things. Without scary changes, there is no growth in life.
  25. Your dog is crazy. This isn’t really a lesson, more of a fact.
  26. Live the life you love.
