Happy first day of spring! New York Fashion Week determined fashion trends for spring 2017 and it’s time for me (and you) to add some bomb ass spring-y items to our closet. Does anyone else make a list of clothes they need to buy every season? I may need some help eliminating some things on my two page long list.
The 80s are Back
It’s all about volume. The 80s are making its biggest comeback with shoulder pads, assymmetrical striped skirts and tops, and (gasp!) puffy sleeves. A lot of designers came out with pieces that looked like an updated wardrobe of Sixteen Candles. I’ve always loved jackets with padded shoulders or tops with puffy sleeves, so I’m quite happy that the 80s are here and hopefully to stay for awhile.
This trend started popping up a couple of months after NYFW. Ruffled sleeves are the latest craze, but so are big ruffled skirts piggybacking off of 80s fashion. I personally love this trend. It’s great for people like me who have larger arms and small shoulders. Much like shoulder pads, it gives you more proportion.
What’s spring without the obvious florals? YUP, garden central is back again. Add ruffles or bell sleeves as mentioned above and you’ll fit right in.
Y’all are probably like, “Ang, I’ve been wearing bralettes for two years now. This is not new”. But you wear them as a shirt this spring! Pair a cropped bralette with a mid rise midi skirt or pants or wear a mesh shirt over it! I love this style but I have to be careful to not look a certain way because, big bosoms.
