International Women’s Day

international women's day - ohh angie

Happy International Women’s Day! Today is a day to celebrate women and all of the accomplishments we’ve achieved so far in society. I hope all women are proud to be a woman today no matter your political or personal beliefs.

The reason why I say that is because I used to be afraid of the word feminist. I tried to steer clear of being “labelled” such a term because it seemed so daunting. It took me awhile to figure out that I was indeed a feminist and proud of it.

As I got older, I realized that men were the ones labeling feminists as uptight, rigid man-haters. I also knew I cared about women’s rights and what we do and don’t have in today’s society. I accepted the fact that I can care about women’s social issues while still loving men and stay open minded. Feminists are not haters, we just care a lot about our community and our future children.

My girlfriends and I decided to film a short video on our personal experiences and opinions on being a woman. We had so much fun filming it with the help of our friend, Cameron. It was also fun to work on a short project with a group of fun and motivated people.

Happy International Women’s Day! Lovee the video that you made. 🙂 It’s interesting to see how the feminist movement has evolved over the years and I’m proud that each day we’re trying to have gender equality. Hehe watching the show mad Men makes me realize how much harder women had it in the 60’s.

Hi Atsuna! Right?! On the one hand, I’m proud that the movement has taken females as far as it has so far, but on the other, we still have a long ways to go.

Happy International Women’s Day (a day late)! I’m totally with you on never really understanding the word feminist and believing it was a negative thing. It is so inspiring to see so many women standing up these days!
